Veneers

If you’re looking for an immediate long-term change, veneers could be the answer for you. Veneers are very thin, ceramic shells that cover your existing tooth structure, and give you the power to choose how your smile looks. Veneers are commonly used to improve the overall appearance of the teeth by resolving issues such as staining, chips and cracks, gaps between teeth, and misalignment.

The process of implementing veneers is thorough and can take up to three visits. During the first appointment, our specialists will work with you to form the ideal shape and look of your new smile. Once the plan has been finalized, we will prepare the teeth for the implementation of the new veneers. Then, we will take an impression to send to our laboratory that creates the veneers.

Our cosmetic laboratory is held to the highest standard for the fabrication of our dental products, and there your veneers will be carefully constructed from the impressions we take. The fabrication process can take a short time, so you will be provided with beautiful temporary veneers to wear in the meantime. The temporaries will give you an idea of what the implemented final product will look like, allowing you to decide if you would like any changes to the shape before the veneers are created.

Once you have decided on a final product, the porcelain veneers will be finalized in the lab, and the last appointment will entail the removal of the temporaries and, ultimately, the implementation of your new smile. We will bond the veneers to your existing tooth structure, ensuring that they will feel just like your natural teeth. Then, you’re free to enjoy your new beautiful smile for years to come!

Whitening

It’s difficult to keep our teeth their whitest when so many factors affect their appearance – even with proper maintenance, things like coffee, smoking, and certain foods are notorious for staining our teeth on a daily basis. To reverse these effects, and to regain your smile’s “wow-factor,” we offer teeth whitening services at Altoona Family Dentistry. Teeth whitening procedures are optimal for either restoring the natural color of your teeth or whitening them to your shade of preference.

Bonding

To enhance the aesthetics of your smile, consider our bonding procedure. Bonding can serve to correct cracks in the teeth, bridge gaps, fill cavities, and cover stains or discoloring on the teeth.

An adhesive gel will be applied to the affected tooth or range of teeth, depending on your needs. Next, a composite resin will be sculpted over the gel, and an LED light will be used to harden the resin. After the resin is solidified and affixed to the tooth, it is then polished to make your fresh, new smile complete.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays, more commonly known as partial crowns, are used to restore a single damaged tooth. A partial crown is effective in strengthening the tooth, restoring its shape, and protecting against future damage. The existing tooth is used as an anchor, and the partial crown is fitted to the damaged area. The goal is to preserve as much of the remaining tooth structure as possible. An inlay is used when the damage is mostly internal, excluding the cusps of the tooth, and an onlay is used when the damage extends beyond the cusps and requires more repair.

First, the dental specialist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and create a mold of the tooth. This mold is sent to our laboratory where the replica will be created from your choice of porcelain or gold. Similar to the veneer procedure, you will be provided with a temporary until your next visit. During the next appointment, the temp will be removed and your inlay or onlay will be set with cementing material. If you are in need of an inlay or onlay, our procedure will ensure that the tooth’s final appearance will be indistinguishable from how it looked before the damage occurred.
